Introduction

In the Age of Legends, when Shai'tan first touch the world, he realised that he could not escape his prison alone.  He needed help from the outside world.  He sent dreams to some of the Aes Sedai he thought would be easiest to persuade.  He promised them power, wealth and immortality.  Some of these Aes Sedai listened to him and believed that the Dark One could actually give them all those things.  The Aes Sedai that turned to the Shadow were called Dreadlords.  These Aes Sedai knew enough not to call the Dark One, Shai'tan and so called him 'Great Lord of the Dark'.  Of these Dreadlords, Shai'tan chose his favourite.  To these he gave special powers like immortality.  He gave them the title 'Those Chosen to Rule the World Forever'.  They came to be known as 'Chosen' by Darkfriends and the 'Forsaken' by all others.  To these peolpe he also granted the possibility to become 'Nae'Blis'.  The Nae'Blis would rule at Shai'tan's right hand for eternity.  This name would only be granted to the best of the Chosen.  This ultimate goal resulted in sceming between eachother.  In the end, all but thirteen Chosen died.  These Chosen were: Aginor, Asmodean, Balthamel, Be'lal, Demandred,Graendal, Ishamael, Lanfear, Mesaana, Moghedien, Rahvnin, Sammael and Semirhage.  All of these names, except Lanfear's, were made by men and later embraced by the Chosen.  Lanfear chose her own name.

Ishamael

Ishamael was the most powerful of the Chosen.  He was believed to be the Dark One's to general (eventhough he never led any of the Dark One's troops.  Before he turned to the Shadow, he was known as Elan Morin Tedronai.  He was a great philosipher nad wrote many books.  Of these were Analysis of Perceived Meaning, Reality and the Absence of Meaning, and The Disassenbly of Reason. No copies of his books survived the Breaking but it is evident, from letters that still survive, that he had a good idea of the history of the world.  Many people of the day believed that they were the first people to have fought the Shadow.  He, going against common belief, said that Lews Therin Telamon, and his fight against the Dark One, had gone on many a time before.  One other thing he believed is that, in other ages, Lews Therin had been turned over to the Dark and the Shadow had riegned for that Age.
Ishamael was among the first to pledge himself to the Shadow.  His public annoucement of his move to the Shadow, created much upheaval in the land.  He was the first person to reveal to the world what they were facing.
Ishamael is thought to have only been partially sealed in the Bore since he was sighted many times before any of the other were.
He was killed in the Stone of Tear by Rand al'Thor in 999 NE.  Some speculate that he may be either Osan'gar or Aran'gar.
